Crazy, but great ideas for wedding catering

ImageThere are so many things to think about when planning a wedding and food is up there as one of the most expensive and difficult aspects to organise.  Firing out a three course meal followed by the cutting of 3 tiered cake may be the most obvious choice, but it’s not the only option and if you fancy trying something different there are some great alternatives.

The Touring Band Caterer

I recently attended the wedding of a good friend of mine who has a career as a tour manager of world famous bands.  As she is used to a life on the road with a touring catering team in toe, it was an obvious choice for her to hire her touring catering company for her wedding.  The food was a help yourself buffet style, but of exceptional quality and knowing that you were eating the same food that is served to stars has its own very special appeal.  It is potential a far cheaper and a great talking point for your guests.

The Cheese Cake

Most wedding cakes are either fruit, much like a traditional Christmas cake, or sponge, but why not have a cheese cake?  I don’t mean a sweet cheesecake either I mean a load of cheese made to look like a cake.  This might sound crazy, but think about, the wedding cake is most often consumed much later on in the wedding proceedings, most often when the bubbly has long since started flowing, and personally once I’m feeling a little tipsy the last thing I want to be eating is a sweet dry cake, I’d much rather nibble on some cheese.  Why don’t you give it a go. I guarantee your guests will be at first appalled, but ultimately delighted by your unconventional wisdom.

The Hog Roast

There’s nothing that says mediaeval knights wedding more than a hog roast.  This is a very weather dependant option, but this a great option for those that are planning an outdoor reception.  A hog roast looks spectacular and taste’s even better.  Much like the first option this is a help yourself option.  I think it would be an absolutely fabulous idea for an outdoor summer wedding.

Full Cooked Breakfast

What on earth?  I hear you cry.  Well the meal served at a wedding reception for the bride, groom and guests is traditionally called the wedding breakfast in the UK.  The reason is that once upon a time the bride and groom would have had to fast before the wedding; therefore their first meal after the ceremony would literally break their fast.   This might not go down well in London Luxury hotels, but everyone loves a good cooked breakfast and what better way to prepare yourself for a heavy nights drinking than a healthy big breakfast.
