The build up for Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is well under way and we wanted to give you a refresher of what it is all about and what has been happening as we get close to one of the biggest fundraising events in the country.
If you aren’t aware of the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning it is an event which happens all over the UK to help support those suffering from cancer and their families. The event kicks off on the 28th of September and will hopefully be their biggest event to date. Since its beginning in 1990 the World’s Biggest Coffee morning has helped to raise over £60 million which is an incredible amount, last year 51,000 people signed up to coffee morning and helped to raise an astounding £10 million. Hopefully this year will be even bigger.
In the modern day you can’t ignore social media, it is an excellent way of helping to connect to people and informing them about what you are up to. Macmillan have taken to Twitter in a great way and you can see some of the people getting involved in the event through a storify we created. You can keep up to date with events and news about events by following the #coffeemorning tag. It is great to see so many people excited about receiving their coffee morning packs and putting up loads of images to help share the message.
Macmillan have also created an amazing interactive map that allows you to show your coffee morning, or if your not holding an event, allows you to see what events are near you. You can search by cities or by postcode and it highlights which events are run by individuals, companies or businesses and which are being held in Marks & Spencers cafe. It is a great way to see where events are taking place around you and if there aren’t any you can register and mark your event on the map.
I think that the engagement from supporters online is what helps the coffee morning succeed so well. People sharing images and letting people know about there event is a great way to promote a good cause. You can see some of the tweets in a storify that we created and will look to update as the coffee morning launch approaches.
If you are getting involved in a coffee morning please let us know in the comments section below. We hope that this years World’s Biggest Coffee morning will be the biggest yet and help to support people and families who are affected by cancer.
