Armed Forces Day 2012

This weekend, 30th June, is the annual Armed Forces Day where we get together to celebrate the incredible work our armed forces do around the world.

Why do an annual event?

The day is aims to both raise awareness of the contribution our brave soldiers do as well as raising support for armed forces, their families and veterans alike.

How you can get involved?

You can get involved in a number of ways. First you attend one of the events going on throughout the country. From Stornoway to Guernsey there is bound to be an event local to you that you can attend.

The second way you can join in is by organising your own event or party to celebrate. Here are some ideas on how to hold your own Armed Forces Themed Party and a Pinterest board of what to include in your event.

The final way you can get involved is by donating what you can to one of the many supporting Armed Forces charities who do a number of wonderful things from supporting the families of armed forces, campaign for additional supplies like satellites and essential equipment and other charities help rehabilitate soldiers back into civilian life.

Where is the National Event?

The national event is in the city of Plymouth because of its’ historic links with the military. There will be notable military participants from the Armed Forces, veterans, Cadets, Merchant Navy and supporting charities and organisations.

The celebrations will include a parade through the city, their latest equipment will be on show and the chance to speak to these incredible servicemen and women.

No matter what you are doing this weekend, take a couple of minutes out of your day to thank the brave men and women who work in our Armed Forces around the world.
